\/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Get Close!<\/strong> \u00a0Try getting in super close to your ornaments! \u00a0Getting in close obviously puts all the focus on your lovely pieces, but it also prevents distractions from the surrounding area from creeping in. \u00a0Many cameras have a Macro setting which will allow you to move in super close and still get a sharp image. \u00a0The macro mode is usually symbolized with a little flower. \u00a0Usually in macro mode, your camera will select a large aperture (F-Stop) so that the background will go a little blurry. \u00a0If your camera allows it, select the lowest number allowed for your aperture. \u00a0Play around with the focus point once you have chosen your setting and be selective &#8211; a large aperture will create a small &#8220;depth of field&#8221; and a narrow focus area, so you will need to be careful. \u00a0Thankfully digital photography allows you to keep trying, viewing and getting it just right!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8068\" src=\"https:\/\/www.photographybyjustine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-8065-post\/North-Dakota-Photographer_0358.jpg\" alt=\"Close Up White Christmas Ornament\" width=\"1800\" https:\/\/www.photographybyjustine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-8065-post\/North-Dakota-Photographer_0358-50x34.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1800px) 100vw, 1800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0<strong>Location, Location, Location! \u00a0<\/strong>Of course you can take photos of the ornament hanging on your tree and those will be lovely. \u00a0But have you considered taking them down and creating a little set? \u00a0These photos were taken on just a simple piece of white batting \u00a0(the kind used for fake snow in Christmas villages), and a little snippet of white tule netting. \u00a0Because I moved in really close to the ornaments, I didn&#8217;t need large pieces of fabric. \u00a0 I love how the simplicity of \u00a0just the white makes the eye focus on just the ornament. \u00a0 \u00a0 I also used a little string of tiny LED fairy lights to create those little twinkles. \u00a0Then I moved right in front of a window, letting all the natural light fill the area. \u00a0When looking for light, choose a location where its nice and bright, but not in direct sunlight! \u00a0Watch for shadows and dark patches &#8211; you want a spot just outside the &#8220;strip&#8221; of sunlight \u00a0&#8211; you know, the spot that the cat likes to lie in. \u00a0LOL.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8067\" src=\"https:\/\/www.photographybyjustine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-8065-post\/North-Dakota-Photographer_0359.jpg\" alt=\"Close up Ornament Pictures\" width=\"1800\" height=\"1800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.photographybyjustine.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/19-8065-post\/North-Dakota-Photographer_0359.jpg 1800w, \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>3. \u00a0<strong>Change the Angle! \u00a0<\/strong>Move your camera and yourself around! \u00a0Its natural to take the photo straight on, but try lying on your stomach and taking a photo from a little below or stand up and shoot straight down! \u00a0Check your photo and look for\u00a0distractions &#8211; these can be things in the background like a sofa leg, a picture hanging on the wall, or even other ornaments! \u00a0Sometimes we only look at the subject of the photo and forget to see what&#8217;s surrounding it! \u00a0The big one to watch out for is your own reflection in shiny round ornaments! \u00a0Or reflections of the surrounding area. \u00a0Whoops &#8211; there I am &#8211; as well as my studio gallery wall!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I had to try several times to find just the right place to take the following photo. \u00a0I made small adjustments to check see where the reflections were and just changed my position a little to find the correct angle. \u00a0I also was picky about where I focused the camera, so that the area that had the highest reflection was blurrier and less obvious.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8070\"
